About SESTWA
Suna East Schools Secondary Teachers Welfare Association — a brotherhood and sisterhood of educators united by compassion, solidarity and a shared commitment to supporting one another through every season of life.
What Drives Us
Three pillars that guide every decision SESTWA makes on behalf of its members.
Our Mission
To provide timely, dignified and transparent financial welfare support to teachers of Suna East Sub-County during bereavement, medical emergencies and other approved hardships — funded entirely by member contributions and governed by the constitution.
Our Vision
A Suna East teaching fraternity where no educator faces grief or hardship alone — where every member is assured of swift, adequate support backed by a trusted, accountable and technology-enabled welfare system.
Our Core Values
Solidarity — we stand together in every season.
Transparency — every shilling is accounted for.
Dignity — support is given with respect and speed.
Inclusivity — every active member is equal.
Born Out of a Teacher's Grief
SESTWA was founded when a small group of teachers in Suna East noticed that colleagues who suffered bereavement were often left to bear funeral costs alone — costs that could wipe out months of salary. In response, they established a voluntary welfare pool governed by a simple, fair constitution.
What began as an informal group of a few dozen teachers has grown into a formally registered association covering hundreds of educators across every school in the sub-county. Technology now powers what spreadsheets and phone calls once managed — members are notified instantly, payments are made via M-Pesa, and every contribution is publicly accountable.
Today SESTWA covers bereavement of members, their spouses, children and parents — and extends to other welfare situations announced by the Secretary. The association is led by an elected executive committee and governed entirely by its constitution.
Read the ConstitutionStanding together means no teacher in Suna East faces hardship alone. That was true the day we started, and it is truer today.
